Werewolf anthology. [23 Dec 2009|06:45pm]

This book is nice and good. only two stories into it, really, but they're really well written and there's some nice treats later on including Neil Gaiman's only the end of the world again.

quitting smoking is hard. i don't like being a slave to an addiction. my goal is to be finished with it by the end of next month. we shall see.

My weirdness. [23 Dec 2009|02:10pm]

I decided to keep track of everything i read from december 22nd this year to december 22nd 2010. just out of curiosity, a pet science project. yesterday i read 22 separate pieces of fiction. 19 of them were comics from chapters of bigger ongoing stories to a couple stand alones and short pieces. i read a whole novel yesterday, star wars the force unleashed and technically one and a half short stories, twilight at the two towers by clive barker and the dream of the wolf by a guy i dont remember yet; both are part of a werewolf anthology that's made up primarily of original works. which is why i bought it, twilight at the two towers isnt a books of blood story and ive never seen it in print before. i own almost everything barker's ever written, so this had to be added to the collection.

i do weird things sometimes. heh.

I spoiled myself a little bit today via comics. it sucks not having a car for that reason alone, i don't get to the comic shop but once every month and a half and have to dump quite a bit on the books, but it's good 'cause i often get two issues, sometimes three, of certain books. it's great fun.

i liked a great deal of what i've read so far, but i'm definitely dropping x-men forever, it's interesting, but i still dislike reading claremont written comics. the best two books i've read so far are the dark avengers and x-force annuals. dark avengers dealt with marvel boy who, although created by grant morrison and no longer written by him, is still kinda being written by bendis as though he was being written by morrison. it's good stuff. the x-force annual, haha, man. my current favorite comic writer that isn't a wacky brit is robert kirkman. the walking dead and invincible are my two favorite monthly books - followed randomly by x-force 'cause x-force is just crazy well-written fun - and any new kirkman is a present almost. plus, this issue was illustrated by one of my all time favorite artists, jason pearson. this issue was awesome fun and a nice change of pace for the x-force book as it was a lot less bleak and dark and was a fun little wolverine tale with some great moments. the back up tale which fits into the necrosha crossover between x-force and the new mutants is a hilarious little deadpool story by the usual x-force writing team. i wanna add the deadpool books to my pull list but there's like four of them. that's a bit much.

dark avengers was really good for the past two months. im really not ready for another big crossover so nation x and siege has me skeptical, so im just gonna keep up with the books i already get, then maybe get the trade later.

image united was what i expected. the first issue is primarily youngblood orientated and was laid out by rob liefeld, and you can really tell, but the art is really pretty. seeing all the image characters drawn by their creators is a hoot. silvestri and mcfarlane really shine here, and larsen's goofy cartoon style he adopted lets you know just how wacky this idea is. i wanted the jim lee cover, but i guess it was pretty rare. jim is the only image founder unable to participate in the experiment thanks to his contract with dc and all his once image characters being owned by dc.

i can't wait to re read the stuff i've already read and read the rest.

Dear Hideo Kojima,

I realize that Peace Walker has your full attention, with Rising and Lords of Shadow taking up the rest of your time, but can we please get trophies for MGS4 sometime soon?
